The Alice Springs Telegraph Station featuring beautifully restored buildings and housing a wonderful interpretive display that traces the early history of Alice Springs. The Telegraph Station is the site of the original Alice Springs waterhole. The Telegraph Station has had a varied history including the first communication link to Central Australia, Home for the Aboriginal Children during the bungalow period and Supply Depot during WW2. The Royal Flying Doctor Base has operated in its present location since 1939 in what is now one of Alice's finest heritage buildings. The Alice Springs School of the Air provides daily lessons by HF Radio and satellite communication to isolated children, living on cattle stations, road houses, Aboriginal communities and national parks.
